Confucius Giving Lectures under the Apricot Tree
Confucius (551 B.C.-- 479 B.C.) is considered as one of the greatest thinkers, statesmen, educators in ancient China. He is the first man who founded the private education, and originated the theory of “education for all” (or teaching all comers without discrimination), and “teaching students in accordance with their aptitude”. Confucius, himself, is credited by the tradition with having taught three thousand students in total, and seventy-two among them are most famous, called “Seventy-two Sainted Disciples”. And also, ten students are extraordinarily excellent, being called “Kong Men Shi Zhe”(Ten Wise People under Confucius’ Tuition).
